Many pet food companies use the lowest cost ingredients even if the first ingredient listed is a protein like chicken. This includes downed or sick animals rejected for human consumption, left-over bits and pieces, by-products, poor quality grains (we do not use any grains), and other cheap components in their food to maximize profits. Ever wonder why canned food has those perfect meaty looking chunks? Yep, meat scraps that can’t be sold to humans formed with grains to fool humans into thinking the food is healthy. They’re corporations looking for profit, not necessarily putting the health of your beloved fur baby first.
Chicken is widely used in commercial pet food, but this protein is a common source of allergies and sickness in pets. There are many problems with chicken that have to do with breeding practices, excessive fluoride in their diets which is then found in their tissue and bone, and the allowance by the FDA to permit feces, feathers, and other filth in pet food — not just gross but all of that debris can be potent allergens. We use novel proteins sold for humans, which reduces the possibility of an allergic reaction.
